Bowen Therapy

Because everyone needs a recovery strategy to be able to continue giving their Best in all areas of life.

What is Bowen Therapy?

Bowen Therapy is a gentle soft tissue therapy that initiates the body’s own healing mechanisms. It complements, the work you’re already doing with your health care team, but it doesn’t interfere with it.

What can Bowen Therapy help you with?

Bowen Therapy helps you recover better after tough training sessions so you can go again and pursue your fitness goals.

Additionally Bowen Therapy assists in the treatment of acute and chronic conditions, including:

  • back and neck pain

  • headaches and migraines

  • sciatica

  • stress

  • upper respiratory and TMJ problems

  • shoulder pain, frozen shoulder

  • Hip, knee, ankle and foot problems

  • RSI and tennis elbow

  • Scoliosis

  • Poor posture …

What happens in a Bowen Therapy session?

In your first treatment your Bowen Therapist will discuss your concerns, check your posture and observe muscle tension and movement.

During your treatment you’ll be lying on the massage table. Bowen Therapy doesn’t use any lotions or oils. Whilst treatment is best when performed on skin, it could be done over light cotton clothing, if this is what you prefer.

The practitioner performs very gentle and measured moves in an exact sequence over specific points on your body. Each set of moves is followed by several minutes of wait times to allow your body to respond and to adjust tension levels in the muscles. This response can occur up to 5 days after  your treatment.

Sessions are between 30-60 minutes.

Does Bowen Therapy hurt?

No. All Bowen moves are very gentle and shouldn’t cause you any pain.

If it’s so gentle, how does it do anything?

Bowen moves are done over very specific points on your body. They effect ligaments, tendons and fascia. Bowen moves deliver signals to the nervous system. These signals deliver information about the tension in your muscles. The nervous system responds to those signals back to your muscles to adjust tension and relax. When your body is allowed and able to relax you’re also shifting from autonomic nervous system dominance (fight, flight, freeze) into parasympathetic nervous system dominance (rest, relax, repair). As a result you might drop into deep relaxation, fall asleep and your tummy starts gurgling.

Whom is Bowen Therapy for?

Bowen Therapy is suitable and safe for individuals of all ages and degrees of health.
